Player Profile: Nwankwo Kanu
Name: Nwankwo Kanu
Born: Owerri, Nigeria
Nationality: Nigeria
Position: Striker
DOB: 1/8/1976
Current Club: Portsmouth

Nwankwo Kanu made his name in while he was with Ajax in 1995, where he was one of the dominant attacking players which brought the team the Dutch League as well as the Champions League.

A year later he inspired his Nigerian teammates to win the Olympics Gold in Atlanta.

He moved onto Inter Milan, only to discover that he had a heart defect and required surgery. He joined Arsenal and there won 2 Premier League titles and 2 FA Cups, despite not having the form he was before his surgery. He moved to West Bromwich Albion in 2004 on a free transfer.

Despite one of the most spectacular misses in the history of the Premier League, an erratic Ajax team are looking for his signature in the winter of 2004-05.

Kanu Heart Foundation

-------- Editor's Note --------

A ton of boards are linking to this page trying to figure out if Kanu did win the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan. That was an unfortunate year for Kanu that year as he was diagnosed with a heart defect, but was still able to play 5 games in the competition which makes him eligible to be part of the team that won the competition - as UEFA gives out 25 medals to the players - no more, no less. Keep in mind that he went to Arsenal soon after and then came back to Inter for a very short time before heading back (played only 1 game at Inter). Yahoo! Sports
